Offshore Inspection
Offshore inspection puts a small ROV on structures people cannot reach — platform legs, moorings, risers and subsea hardware — to bring back a repeatable look at a known location. Working environment
Exposed offshore sites as well as sheltered harbours, with current, swell and often low visibility. Deployment windows are short and shared with other operations; the vehicle is launched from a vessel or a structure and flown along a planned line of inspection.
Technical challenges
Holding position and heading in current while the camera stays pointed at the target, and producing an image a defect can actually be seen in when the water is turbid. Depth, pressure and corrosion protection have to hold over repeated dives, and the tether has to tolerate abrasion against structure.
